HuM Architects are excited and honoured to share that the bathroom from our River Project has been awarded “Winner – Australia Architect Bathroom of the year “at the 2026 Trends International Design Awards.

A huge thank you to our talented team, our wonderful client, an outstanding builder @renovationone and all our suppliers who made this project possible.

Taking inspiration from luxury hotel experiences, the owners were seeking to replicate that feeling of sanctuary and wellbeing.

With amazing views to the west and natural light to take advantage of, the principal suite has become something very special – providing spacious elegance zoned away from the hustle and bustle of family life.

This project was a wonderful collaboration and we’re incredibly proud to see it recognised. Thanks to @trendsideas

On site today looking at the curve – sometimes it doesn’t need the light, it just needs to stand still while the light dances around it.

Either side the light and shadows spill in low and long, framing the curve without ever touching it. Some shapes don’t chase attention. They just hold the centre.

Simplicity, done right, looks like this.

Set within a double height structured space, the feature curve staircase designed by HuM Architects brings a sense of movement, softness and a bit of fun, creating a beautiful contrast to the interior experience.

Throughout the day natural light dances across its sweeping form, creating a constantly changing play of light and shadow that accentuates each curve.

Warm timber treads introduce texture and richness against the smooth white plaster while subtly drawing out the tones embedded within the concrete floor.

The curved feature walls are taking shape and the roof framing is nearly complete.

Feature skylight above the stair landing will bring natural light while framing the view back towards the existing chimney – a quiet moment beautifully connecting new and old.

Excited to see this space continue to unfold.

Designed for a busy family who enjoy entertaining, and were seeking a new home that takes advantage of the surrounding views and supports their modern lifestyle. The kitchen forms the central anchor point of the home, surrounded by the living and outdoor entertainment zone together with a stunning meals area featuring a double height void and sweeping curved stair overlooking the pool.

The curved cantilevered wall provides passive shading to the dining area during the summer, while dappled light from the garden tree plays across the concrete slab creating a calm, tranquil interior.

Sun is out ☀️

Sun hats on, Sunscreen applied as HuM Architects were on site today as @renovationone continue works on this Flemington heritage home – loving the progress.

With restumping complete and concrete now cured, the beginnings of the curved external wall are evolving. Steel is being meticulously placed in its location for the cantilevered first floor.

More to come as this heritage and contemporary addition unfolds.

Here’s a sneak peek of our Newport Project concept sketch.

The design carefully maximises a compact site, while also considering the challenges of a Heritage Overlay. Internally, the layout has been reworked to improve flexibility and functionality for contemporary living.
The new rear extension with its open plan living and kitchen areas, strengthens the connection to the rear garden. A brick feature wall reuses bricks from the existing garage, providing material character and reducing waste.

Carbon-neutral external cladding, retained existing structure, controlled summer shading, abundant natural light, and cross ventilation to enhance passive comfort all add to reducing both the carbon footprint and energy consumption.
